I've been raving about products from The Body Shop before and for good reason. Everything I've ever bought from them has been of excellent quality, is reasonably priced and lasts a good while. Despite having shopped at The Body Shop for years, I have never tried their shampoos or conditioners so I thought the time had come to give a range of them a trial run. I chose the banana range because I thought it would remind me delicious banana milkshakes, but in reality, it doesn't really smell like that all - false, sweet and tacky.
It actually smells wonderfully refreshing and delicious as opposed to the fake banana scent I was anticipating initially. So all in all, that was a very nice surprise. But that's enough of the general overview, let's delve into what each one has to offer, what I thought to it and, most importantly, whether I'd buy the full sized bottles in the future?
The banana shampoo
With the scent aside, as we've already touched upon that, the shampoo is rather easy to dispense from the bottle as it's thick but not too gloopy that it takes forever and a day to shake out of the container. It lathers up really well in between the hands, as this is what I do before putting the product on my head, and it doesn't take long for it to develop into thick, never ending suds. This makes it even quicker and far easier to rub all over the head, something I've had trouble with in the past when trying new shampoos.
The banana conditioner
Again, the scent is pretty much the same as the shampoo, as you'd expect. So with the smell aside (which is lovely), this conditioner as quite thick, far thicker than the shampoo, which is usual, so there isn't anything that set's it apart from the crowd in that respect. But applying it is super easy and a small amount goes a very long way. But again, this is something that isn't unusual for a hair conditioner. So as far as the application of it goes, it's pretty standard really - nothing to write home about.
How does it make the hair feel after a blow dry?
Once I'm finished washing my hair, I'll blow dry most of the time. Sometimes I just brush it through with a wide-toothed comb and leave to air-dry - it really just depends on the amount of time I have. But on this occasion, in order to give it a good try, I decided to blow dry it. Once dry, the hair feels light, soft and, quite honestly, nourished. Which is funny because it's actually labelled as a 'nourishing' shampoo and conditioner and I can honestly say that I can agree with that.
The thing I was thinking about using a banana shampoo and conditioner is whether or not my hair smells like banana when it's dried. But it doesn't really smell of anything. It doesn't smell of banana, but it does smell clean and fresh. So if you're wanting to buy this duo to smell like a piece of fruit, then you'll be disappointed. But I didn't buy it for this purpose so I'm still quite happy with my purchase.
Would I buy the full-sized bottles?
I would buy the full-sized bottles, for sure! It does feel more luxurious than a bog-standard, shop-bought shampoo and conditioner but without the ridiculous price tag. They're both a bit more expensive to buy than your average shampoos and conditioners, but I'd say spending the extra money is worth it to get slightly better results and an overall better application experience.
But having said that, I wouldn't abandon the supermarket-bought ones purely to use this duo on a regular basis. I'd use it for special occasions or if I knew I was going out for dinner or to the theatre, for example. I wouldn't use them to wash my hair after going running, I think that's a bit of a waste - which is a complement to the shampoo and conditioner from The Body Shop to be fair.
