6 Things You Can Do in a One-Hour Lunch Break
We all have pretty busy, demanding jobs and so it can be easy, when we manage to have a lunch break, to just sit around at our desks still and eat lunch and/or have a good old natter with your colleagues or with the person you live with, without having to venture too far.
Working from home has transformed the way in which we manage to balance work and life and that includes being far more productive when we take lunch breaks. So if you're struggling to get the most out of your hour lunch break as possible, then you've come to the right place because I have a fair few things you can do to try and maximise those 60 minutes :) - enjoy!
Eat lunch away from your desk, for starters
It's important to get away from your desk every now and again, whether working in the office or from home. I like to eat my lunch away from my desk when working from home, but when I'm in the office, it can be easy for me to just sit at my desk and eat - something I'm trying my best not to do. Not only will it allow you some time away from the screen, but you'll also feel as if you've had some real downtime and you might even find that it helps to properly break up your day.
Go for a quick walk
It's never been easier for us, more so for those of us who work from home, to venture out on a lunch break and go for a quick walk around the block. Getting some fresh air and stretching your legs is what your body will be craving after a morning of sitting down, even though it might not seem like it at the time. Blow the cobwebs away and get some steps in, if you can!
Give a friend or a loved one a call
The vast majority of us have mobile phones, and so will our friends and family. So if you know that they're free, give them a quick call. Ask how they are, how their day's going and whether there's anything they'd like to talk about. Get a conversation going and give yourself a distraction from work life. It also means you're checking on someone you care about, thus letting them know that you're thinking of them.
Do some exercise
This is far easier to do when you work from home. I've been loving either running or doing an exercise video during my lunch breaks. It stretches the legs and gets the heart pumping after a morning of sitting down tapping away. Again, it also helps to break the day up a bit and I always feel far more productive after getting a bit of exercise in. Remember, you don't have to do anything rigorous. Simply going for a brisk walk around the block will be good for you :)
Read
Depending on the job you have, this might not be the most ideal thing to do during your hour off work, but you can learn a lot from a book, either fiction or non-fiction. Whether you're right in the middle of reading the Harry Potter series or would prefer to kick back with Peter Andre's auto-biography, any form of reading is good for the brain and for the soul. You could even stretch to reading a magazine or a newspaper - whatever helps you to unwind :)
Listen to a podcast or some music
There are loads of podcasts out there, so much so that there's something there fore everyone, no matter what your interests are. Where I'm not someone who generally listens to podcasts, there are a couple that I enjoy and I keep regular tabs on those.
But I also get a lot of joy out of listening to music. As long as there's some background noise, it can really help me to feel relaxed before getting back to work. After doing this, I feel that I look at my work with a fresh, happy and relaxed mind.
