4 Signs it's Time to Get Your Gel Nails Removed
I'm a stickler for leaving my gel nails for as long as possible before either having them removed or having them re-done. But despite waiting and waiting until I can no longer stand to look at them, I know the signs to look out for that indicate that a gel nail re-do is ready.
If you've never had a gel manicure before, then you may well find this especially useful. Although, if you're like me and you leave them for as long as possible, there might be some indicators on here that you weren't previously aware of. So shall we dive in?
1. Your nails are starting to chip or peel
The most obvious sign that you're due a gel nail refresh is that your nails start to chip or peel. As soon as a gap starts to open up between the polish and the nail bed, it's time to have them taken off. Nothing looks worse than a chipped set of nails. They look messy and unkempt and they're just not a good look overall. So, you should look to have them rectified as soon as possible.
2. You can see visible nail growth
The thing with gel nails is that they're so durable and hard wearing that they actually grow with your nails. This means that, eventually, you'll start to see some nail growth. Once it starts to become noticeable, you should should really think about having your gel nails either removed or redone.
3. The end of your nails have changed shape
When you have a gel manicure, your nails are filed into shape. As the nails grow in length, they can grow slightly out of shape. This means that they'll need to be filed back into pristine condition the next time you go to have your nails done. Once they start to grow out of shape, it's definitely time for a manicure at least, but I like to have a manicure and gel nails applied in the same appointment.
4. Your nail has broken
If one or more of your nails have broken, then it's time to visit your nail technician. They will be able to make all of your nails match, cutting them down to the right size. If you want to keep the length on them, then it would be worthwhile getting nail extensions instead. Either way, no one likes to walk around with any broken nails, so it's a definite sign that you should have your nails redone.
