8 Pros & 3 Cons of Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are predominantly what we have adorning our windows around the house, from the guest room to the kitchen to the bathroom. We love having Venetian blinds as a window decor solution and in this blog post, I'll be explaining why we love them so much, and why we would consider something different, if it really came down to it. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of Venetian blinds:

What are the benefits of Venetian blinds?

  1. They're so simple and easy to maintain - i use a feather duster or I use a blind-cleaning tool to do the job. They're clean in seconds!
  2. Light control is second-to-none - you'll never have a problem blocking out unwanted light or angling the light where you want it
  3. They maintain your privacy - when closed, Venetian blinds are perfect for giving you that extra bit of privacy. There's no way someone will be able to see through a set of closed Venetian blinds
  4. They can keep the heat in - when closed, Venetian blinds, especially wooden ones, will help to trap the heat inside the room, rather than let it escape out of the window, during the winter
  5. They're durable - I can clean these blinds, pull them up, open and close the slats etc and they still operate and look as they did the day we bought them
  6. The design is timeless - you can't go wrong in terms of design. They suit all aesthetics and decor and they always look the part, no matter how many years pass
  7. They're cost-effective - they're not at all expensive to buy and fit, especially if you do it yourself like we did
  8. They come in a wide range of colours - no matter what you're looking for, colour-wise, there will be a colour and a material available to you that will suit your needs and your budget

What are the disadvantages of Venetian blinds?

  1. The slats can collect dust - when open, the slats sit flat, with the surface pointing upwards. This makes it a haven for dust. But they are incredibly easy to clean so don't let it put you off completely
  2. They aren't suitable for every window type - you might not want Venetian blinds in a room where a child sleeps, for instance, because they can let some light in around the edges, but for every other room in the house, you're cooking
  3. They're not always available in motorised options - if you're looking for electronic blinds that can be opened at the push of a button, then Venetian blinds might not be for you
