5 Essentials to Stock Up On During Cold & Flu Season
It's still cold out, and as the winter continues, albeit not for much longer, so does the increased possibility of getting poorly. I'm pretty sure we've all had our fair share of colds and flues this season so far, but it's not over yet. Here are five essentials that I like to stock up on during cold and flu season that help get me through:
1. Pain relief
Having a cold is painful. It hits your head, your sinuses, your nose, your throat, your joints and it can even give you toothache as a result of inflamed sinuses. That's why it's always a good idea to have some pain relief on hand, to tackle the worst of the cold and flu stages.
2. Decongestants
Inflamed sinuses cause a wide range of problems. It causes headaches, toothaches and other problems. A blocked nose can also result in dry, sore throats, itchiness and breathing problems. The best way to solve this problem is to have some decongestants near by to help relieve issues with blocked noses and sinuses.
3. Cough soothers
A blocked nose can mean that you breathe out of your mouth more, especially when you're sleeping. The cold alone can cause a sore throat to come on as well. So it's always best to have some throat soothers or lozenges in the house so that you can keep your throat lubricated and medicated.
4. Digestive aids
Sometimes, having a cold or a flu can wreak havoc on your digestive system. It either means that you're not hungry, too hungry or your digestive system has trouble processing the food you are eating. It could cause constipation or diarrhoea depending on the severity of the illness. With this in mind, it's always best to have some medication on hand to tackle either one of those issues, just in case.
5. Sanitisers & tissues
Keeping your hands clean throughout your illness is essential. It's also important that you're coughing and sneezing into tissues and then throwing those directly into the bin. This helps to prevent the illness from spreading throughout the household.
