How to Celebrate Valentine's Day No Matter Your Relationship Status
Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Love it or loathe it, there will be plenty of things you can do to celebrate the day, regardless of the whether or not you're in a relationship. Everything in the list below can be applied to couples, friends and singletons alike. So let's dive right in! Here's how to celebrate Valentine's Day no matter your relationship status.
Eat sweets & chocolates
Nothing is more relaxing than sticking on a good film surrounded by some of our favourite sweets and chocolates. You might even feel obliged to have a nibble here and there. Valentine's Day definitely isn't a night for being healthy, so take advantage and enjoy a cheat day.
Do something different
Do something on Valentine's Day that you wouldn't ordinarily do. If you go to the gym that morning, then go out for breakfast instead. If you normally cook dinner at home, go and get something out, whether it be a takeaway or a formal cliche dinner. Just do something out of the ordinary to make it feel less like "just another day".
Add some rose tones
You don't have to do anything on Valentine's Day if you don't want to. But you could pay homage to the holiday by adding some rose tones throughout your day. You could drink from a pink or red cup for the day or wear something with hearts on it. You could paint your nails pink or red or put on some pink or red socks. Something understated but that still acknowledges the day is a great way to celebrate it in your own way.
Learn something new
Instead of spending the evening at a restaurant like everyone else, why not stay at home and learn something new? Learn a new skill on YouTube or attend a class, like flower arranging or knitting. Make the day worthwhile in other ways in lovey dovie isn't your thing.
Do some reading
Whether you enjoy reading a magazine or newspaper or a good old fashioned book, why not spend your Valentine's Day doing a spot of reading? You may learn something in the process, which is something else we've already touched on.
Go for a walk
I find that going for a walk is a great way of getting some fresh air, taking some exercise and just having a good old natter. We like to talk about loads of different things when Tom and I go on our walks, from work-related chats to holidays, there's no topic off limits while we're out for a walk.
Enjoy a special meal
I know how you feel, we don't like going out to eat on Valentine's Day any more. We did while we weren't living together, just to make the most of the day. But nowadays, we're happy to stay indoors and cook up a meal that we wouldn't ordinarily have. Usually it's a steak, chips and mushrooms with a bottle of wine. Have something that isn't the norm to make the day feel a little different.
