How to Choose Laminate Flooring for Your Home
Laminate flooring can be a difficult thing to get right. We have laminate flooring everywhere in your home, other than the stairs. But while it might sound like an easy decision to make, it really isn't. There's a lot riding on the colour and the design of a laminate floor, so it needs to be right. Seeing as we have a lot of experience with laminate flooring, I thought I'd write this blog post giving you some tips for finding the right laminate flooring for your home, so let's get into it.
Consider room size
A floor can influence the whole look and feel of a room, so the bigger the room, the more important it is to get the floor right. For instance, a lighter floor will make a smaller room appear brighter and maybe even larger. But a darker floor might well be better for larger rooms where light can bounce around the walls easily. The size of the room is important, more so than you might have otherwise thought.
Look at samples in different lights
First things first - buy sample flooring. It would be a huge mistake it you simply didn't bother. Always buy a sample piece of flooring and then lay it in the room that you want to use it in. Leave it there a few days and keep looking at it in different lights.
Look at it in the morning, when the sun's coming in, when it rains, at nighttime, when it's cloudy and so on. It's important that you're happy with your floor in all lights, even artificial lighting. So buy the samples and keep assessing it on an hour-by-hour basis. Trust me, it's worth spending the time on it.
Think about how different tones influence the look & feel of your home
The colour of the floor you choose can heavily influence the atmosphere of the room. For instance, lighter colours will make the room feel brighter, sunnier and happier. Peaceful and cool ambience can be achieved using grey-toned flooring, and darker flooring will give a rustic, natural feel. Think about what the colours say about the feel of the room before settling on a laminate floor for your home.
Don't choose a floor based on an empty room
What I mean by this is to not look at a room as a shell with a floor. Pick a laminate floor based on the bigger picture. Think about the furniture you want to put in there, the cushions you want to the throw on the sofas, the curtains or blinds you want to hand from the windows, the colours you want to paint the walls, and more.
This is especially important if you have a big room with empty floor space. Instead, choose a laminate floor based on other factors and not just because you like it. It could be an expensive mistake to make if you get the foundation of the room wrong.
