A Family Mini-Break to Devon
We got together over the weekend with extended family to celebrate a couple of big, belated birthdays and it was just what we all needed. Not only was it wonderful to see our family again after months of waiting, but it also acted as a much-needed weekend break for us all. We stayed from Friday to Sunday in Devon, specifically Honiton, in a place called The Greyhound - a beautiful, thatched building which doubled up as a pub and an inn.
The first night involved us ordering some dinner as we were all very hungry after a five-hour journey filled with heavy traffic and road works for most of the way there. I opted for a starter of olives with a halloumi and mushroom burger followed by one scoop of Biscoff ice cream.
Tom had a pork and sage pie followed by sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce for pudding. Now you're going to hate me because I didn't take any pictures of the food for one simple reason - I forgot, haha. Sorry about that, I'll do better next time
The next morning, we went to meet our family for a long, seaside walk. We headed off to Budleigh Salterton beach and walked along the river and then spent some time sat on the seafront, watching the waves lap around and seeing everyone going in for a dip. Normally, my dad, brother and I would go swimming in the sea but we the decision to go down to the coast wasn't really anticipated so we didn't have any swimwear with us :( but the rain held off and eventually the sun came out - perfect for a an hour or so at the beach!
After that, we went back to The Greyhound Country Inn, got changed and then made our way to our family party. I didn't take any pictures of that just because it's quite a private thing, but it was a lovely get-together filled with laughs, food and wine - just an absolutely brilliant night all round basically.
The following day involved us having lunch with my auntie, uncle and cousins and then we hit the road in order to get home before the big football game. England got into the final of the Euros which was absolutely amazing, but we ended up losing to Italy in the end.
Even so, the entire team should be so proud of their achievements and the fact that they managed to push ITALY all the way to penalties in the final of such a major tournament - everyone is proud regardless of the fact we came second :)
