4 Things to Buy Before Spring Ends
I know we still have a few weeks of spring left, but it'll come to a close in a flash. It will also give you enough time to buy a few bits before the season concludes. Here are a few things I think you should purchase before springtime ends, no matter how trivial!
1.Tulips
Tulips are beautiful flowers. There are also a lot of colours to choose from and they can be bought relatively cheaply, whether from your local supermarket or an independent florist. They also last for a long time, so you won't be buying them in bunches willy-nilly like you would do with daffodils.
Unlike daffs, they don't really smell of anything - great if you have someone in the house who suffers with hay fever. Anyway, the season for tulips growing and buying will soon be upon us, so make sure you pick up a bunch before they start selling out.
2. Tomato plants
I have always loved the idea of growing my own tomatoes, but the issue is that you need to start buying and planting the plants now so that they produce fruit in the summertime. If you've been wanting to grow your own tomatoes, like me, then get yourself to your nearest garden centre and buy a couple of young plants now. If you leave it any longer, they'll either not do too well come fruiting season or they'll be more expensive to buy as they'll already be growing fruit. Buy your tomato plants now before the spring season ends.
3. Bird seed
You can buy this all year round, but buying and putting out bird seed now is the perfect time to do so. Not only are birds looking to nest, but their young will start to hatch and fly the nest. Sooner or later, those fledglings will be looking for a solid and secure food source and you could be the answer to their problems.
It's important to give birds a food source, especially the smaller, less-populated species, like Blue Tits and Sparrows, for example. Put your feeder somewhere the bigger birds won't be able to gain access and make sure it's somewhere sheltered so the little birds can be hidden from predators.
4. Baking supplies
I know you can buy baking supplies all year round, but I always like to do a bit of baking as the spring seasons draws to a close. Whether it be something simple like a banana loaf or a two-tiered coffee and walnut cake, there's nothing quite like doing a spot of baking on a warm, sunny, spring afternoon.
