4 Benefits of Doing Your Food Shop Online

For the longest time, I was not someone who wanted to do an online food shop. I thought they'd mess it up, that we'd get over charged, that they'd constantly send up substitutions...the list of negative thoughts about online food shopping was endless. But we actually succumbed and tried it once at the end of last year, and we haven't really gone back.

We have our online food shop delivered by Sainsbury's and, to be honest, we haven't actually had a negative experience, yet *touches wood*. So I thought I'd sing its praises, now that we've been trying it for a while. So, here are four benefits of doing a food shop online.

1. It's convenient & saves you time

Not only is an online food shop delivery convenient, as you don't need to go out, but it also saves you time. for us to go food shopping, we can be out for about two hours. We need to drive there, find a trolley, then go around the supermarket looking for what we need, then we have to pay for it, pack it, load up the car, take the trolley back and then drive home again.

It all adds up over the course of an evening. So with all of this being involved with doing one food shop for one week, it just makes sense to have it all delivered straight to our door. It saves so much time of an evening when free time is all the more precious.

2.  Navigating the traffic is a thing of the past

I hate driving. I also hate driving more when it's busy. The only time we have to go to the supermarket is in the evening, when everyone is out and about, going home from work or they're also going to the supermarket. Having your shopping delivered to your door means that you won't have to worry about navigating heavy traffic.

3. You actually end up spending less

Hear me out. When I go to the supermarket, you spend a lot of time looking around at what else they have. Then the checkouts get you as they have lots of different things there on offer for you to buy. If you do your shopping online, there's less scope for you to browse and spend more than what you've planned.

I plan out our meals and make a list of what's needed before we go so we really only buy what's required to keep us fed and watered for the week. I don't buy chocolate or biscuits or anything else that's on offer when we order our shopping online because I can't be bothered to browse, essentially. Doing a food shop is just another weekly household job that I want ticked off my list.

4. Carbon footprint is lowered

You can actually lower your carbon footprint by having a food shop delivered right to your door. Now I know that your food comes in a van, but that's one vehicle delivering shopping to multiple households. Let's say that one van carried a food shop for ten households, that's ten less cars on the road. You aren't having to go out in your own car to collect your shopping, so it lowers your carbon footprint, albeit a tiny amount.
