Household Jobs I Do Once a Week

There are a few jobs I like to do once a week just to keep the house in check. But it got me thinking about how much I manage to fit in over the course of just seven days. However, I think that they're all necessary to keep the house clean and tidy, for the most part at least! So, here are the household jobs I like to do once a week.

Clean the bathroom & WC

We have a downstairs loo and a main bathroom upstairs. I like to clean both of them, on the same day, once a week. I think it's necessary to keep them clean and hygienic, most importantly. Not only is it nice for those people using it, but it also makes maintenance super easy.

Sealant doesn't go mouldy as quick, for instance. If you look after thing, they'll last, and the last thing I want is to have to fit a new bathroom, again, after only three years. The downstairs loo is something else I like to keep clean and tidy.

It's just nice for our guests to use a toilet that they know is clean and respectable. I like everything who visits our home to feel comfortable, and that extends to our facilities. So a clean bathroom and downstairs WC is something I strive for once a week as a household job (or can we count this one as two? Haha).

Clear out the toaster & coffee machine

This might sound really random. But Both the toaster and the coffee machine get a lot of use throughout the course of seven days. As does the kettle. So I'll clean out the toaster, removing the trays and getting rid of the crumbs.

I'll then take the coffee machine apart, taking out the water tray, the ground container and even the water tank. I'll then give the milk jug a good clean (it does get cleaned after every use, but it gets a deep clean once a week) and the milk thermometer.

I'll then empty the kettle of any water and treat it with limescale remover (which is safe for kettles). While I don't treat it for limescale every single week, I will check it to see how much has built up, as we live in a hard-water area.

Mop the floors

I like to give the floors a mop once a week, mainly in high-traffic areas like the hallway, the kitchen and the living room. I'll also make sure that the downstairs loo and the main bathroom upstairs are mopped as well, to keep it hygienic. I do hoover the house throughout the week, but I like to use the Flash floor wipes to keep the laminate flooring clean once a week.

Wash the towels

Any towel that has been used, including hand towels in both toilets and the kitchen, throughout the week will be washed at the end of the week. I will then swap them out for fresh, clean towels and the cycle starts again. No towel in our house has been left there for more than a week as I feel like they get grubby quickly. This is something I'll make sure I do once a week, without fail.

Do at least one load of laundry

I hate when washing builds up. So once a week, I'll dedicate one day to just doing the laundry. I usually do two loads and I'll let them dry over the course of a few days. By the time the weekend hits, my home is full of clean, dry washing - everyone's happy!
