The Secret to a Delicious Cheese Board

It's Christmas and you know what that means? CHEESE, CHEESE, CHEESE! I LOVE cheese (in case you didn't know, haha). So there's only one thing for it and that's a delicious, all-out, go big or go home cheese board for everyone to enjoy. It's the perfect after dinner but before coffee treat that will have your guests coming back for more. But how, exactly, can you put together your own, magnificent cheese board that'll have your festive visitors talking? Well, let me tell you :)

A variety of cheeses

Of course, a good cheese board needs, you guessed it, a lot of different cheeses. You should buy cheese based on your own tastes and what you prefer as you can't always please everyone, but the good thing about a cheese board is that (almost) everyone likes cheese, no matter what type it is.

For example, we love Wensleydale cheese with cranberries, brie, red Leicester, smoked cheddar, garlic and herb cheddar and just your bog-standard mature cheddar, but we, and our family and friends, don't like blue cheese so that won't be part of our cheese board this Christmas.

I also like to place a baked Camembert in the middle, but not everyone enjoys Camembert, so we'll leave that out this year. Just choose cheese you enjoy and that you know everyone else will love. It's all about variety, but don't go all-out too much as it can get costly, just buy what you need and job's a good'en.

Crackers of different flavours

Ritz crackers are my favourite, so we have some of those and then we bought a selection from Tesco, each box is a different flavour but I do like the old fashioned cream crackers. They just remind me of Wallace and Gromit, haha. The good thing about crackers as well is that they're not too expensive so you can go all out in terms of variety with this one and not break the bank.

All the olives

I think this is a bit of a love it or hate it kind of thing when it comes to an amazing cheese board but I love having olives alongside cheese and crackers. My favourite are nocellara olives together with garlic and herb green olives and garlic stuffed olives. I'm not a huge fan of black olives or olives of any other flavour, just those ones, which I think provides some variety anyway. Not everyone is a fan of olives anyway but it's nice to have the option available for everyone.

Don't forget the chutneys

Where some people like a dry cracker with nothing but cheese and maybe a slice of meat on it, which is completely fine, others like to indulge in a dollop of caramelised onion chutney, myself included. I'll only get one jar of chutney as not everyone likes it but I find it makes all the difference when it comes to a Christmas cheese board.

A bunch of grapes for good measure

Everyone has a slight sweet tooth and cheese and crackers is pretty savoury so this just helps to cut through that. Although they're not made of chocolate or cake or anything like that, they're a healthy after-cheese snack that will cleanse the pallet ready to get back on the cheese-eating haha. That's pretty much what your grapes are for - ridding your taste buds of one cheese to make way for another. Some people use melon for this but I find grapes are quicker, easier and less messy to eat.
