Everything I Loved in December

Not only have we reached the end of another month, but we've also reached the end of 2021 and how fast did that go? I think it went super quickly and I can't quite believe that an entire year has (nearly) gone by. I know it's not quite New Years just yet, but we're only days a way and I've been reflecting on what I've loved over the month of December and guess what? They're not all Christmas-related, shock horror, haha. So let's tell you what I've loved throughout the most festive month of the year :)

Putting up our Christmas tree

It's the first tree we've had in our new house. Back in November, Tom and I bought our first ever house and I couldn't wait to bring in a nice big, bushy Christmas tree to bring in for the season (as our living room is pretty roomy). You can read all about our Christmas tree and the new decorations we've bought for it here.

Going to the Christmas at Wollaton display with family & friends

We went to Wollaton Hall to see the festive light display they have there and it was absolutely amazing. I've written about the experience so you can read all about it in more detail here if you're interested. But the fact is I'll remember the night for a long time to come and, hopefully, they'll do something similar for everyone next year because I'd definitely get tickets if that's the case, haha.

Christmas shopping

Financially, I probably shouldn't have enjoyed this bit as much as I did, but I really did enjoy doing my Christmas shopping this year. I love going out and buying things with other people in mind and envisioning how each person will react to my gift I give them.

I also love the entire wrapping process; from picking out wrapping paper to deciding on the bow I should use to writing out name tags, I think the whole thing, from start to finish, is just brilliant and i look forward to doing it each year - 2021 being no exception.

Drinking hot chocolate & Baileys

I'm not the biggest hot chocolate fan, but I really get into it during the festive season. This year, however, I've been obsessed with hot chocolate and a drop of Bailey's. If you haven't tried it before, give it a go because it's an absolute game-changer - thank me later ;)

Enjoying the Panto again

I've been to each Panto at the Nottingham Playhouse for the last 20 years. So when, in 2020, their performance was cancelled, I was absolutely gutted. However, they announced this year that they'd be putting on a production of Beauty & the Beast and I was over the moon to hear that we could finally go back and watch it in theatres - in real life - what a treat! I wrote a blog post all about our experience, so you can read that here if you'd like to see my review.

Going to Packwood House with the family

We went to Packwood House this month to see some extended family, as we thought it was safer to see each other outdoors, and it was delightful. It's been years since we all met up at a venue like that and it was a real treat. It's run by the National Trust so, as usual, it's beautiful so I'd love to go back in the spring/summer when the weather's a bit warmer and brighter. Again, I wrote a blog post about the day so you can read that here :)

Having two weeks off work

I had quite a few days of holiday to take so I thought I'd take the week off before Christmas. I get the days off in between Christmas and New Year anyway so all in all, I have two weeks off and I'm absolutely living for it. I'm (obviously) still enjoying my time off but I don't have much planned due to new restrictions.

But I'm working on getting back into my running since I tore a ligament in my ankle a couple of months ago. I'm also just enjoying being in the new house and taking in everything the village has to offer together with the countryside surroundings. It's nice to get to know the area more as we've been here for nearly two months so it's about time we ventured out further than usual.

I hope you've enjoyed this blog post! Let me know in the comments what you've loved throughout December - I'd be interested to know :) I'll see in the New Year with a brand new blog post.
