How to Make the Most of Your Mornings

Being a morning person isn't really me, but I'm at that age now where sleeping in until 11am just doesn't happen, so how else can you make good use of waking up early besides staying in bed and getting some more shut eye? I've written a blog post blog post all about things I get done before 9am, so you can read that blog post here.

Start early

Instead of lying around in bed all day, as great as that sounds, it's sometimes a lot more beneficial for you to get up out of bed once your alarm goes off, as much as you really don't want to do it. There's always something to be done early in the morning, whether it be drinking your first cup of coffee, getting some breakfast in you or nipping to the supermarket for your weekly food shop.

I find that starting early when you have things to do is the most productive way to get the job done. We've been doing home renovations since we bought the place back in November and we've been getting huge jobs done by simply getting up early and making the most of the morning before we have a break for lunchtime. Trust me, when you have a to-do list as long as your arm, starting early is the best way to plough through it.

Get some form of exercise in

This might not be what you want to hear and it doesn't involve getting up at a ridiculous time and going out for a 5K run. It can be something that you're comfortable doing by way of getting up and moving your body.

Whether you go for a power walk around the block or head down to the gym to hit some weights, something is better than nothing. You could even unroll the yoga mat and start the day off relaxed and ready to take on the next 24 hours.

Prioritise your to-do list for the day

If you have a to-do list that's extraordinarily long, then you'll need to look through it and decide which jobs you absolutely want to complete that day. Are there any tasks that HAVE to be done by a certain time? If so, then put those at the top of your list.

The jobs that can wait for another day should be placed further down the list. This is how you can be most productive during the morning, so much so, you may find that the evening is completely free for you to relax and unwind.

Get dressed

It might not be what you want to do at first, but getting showered and dressed is the best way to start the day when your to-do list is running away with you. Not to mention you'll generally feel fresher and ready to start the day as you mean to go on. There's something about having a shower that really is refreshing, even more so when you get into clean, comfortable clothes.

Eat a good breakfast

Eating breakfast is beneficial in many ways, so it's important that you don't sleep through this time of the day. Whether you prefer a banana, a couple of crumpets or a good old-fashioned fry up, eating breakfast is totally something you should make the time for. It will give you the energy you need to get your jobs finished, in good time as well!
