6 Things You Need to Do at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World
Animal Kingdom is such a wonderful Disney park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. As the name would suggest, it's all about ANIMALS! But with limited rides and attractions, along with the abolition of It's Tough to Be a Bug, people often spend the least amount of time there.
This is what I've gathered from friends and family who have been to Disney World before. But what if I told you that there's a lot more to Animal Kingdom than first meets the eye. From petting goats to climbing Everest, here are six things you need to do at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World...
1. Pet some goats
Get the Wildlife Express Train to the Conservation Station to see the goats and pet them to your heart's content. While this might not sound like something that is up your street, or if you think it'll be dirty and smelly, this is DISNEY we're talking about. They're the cleanest goats I have ever come across.
As soon as they leave droppings on the floor, someone is following behind them ready to pick it all up. That and you can't actually leave the place without washing your hands. It's a very hygienic little goat petting zoo. You can also see other creatures there, in a different facility, like snakes and tarantulas.
It's definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something fun to do at Animal Kingdom, not to mention you get to go on a train to get there! If we enjoyed the experience, then your kids (get it? Haha) definitely will!
2. Taking a drawing class
Enjoy the Animation Experience at the Conservation Station where you'll get to attend a professional drawing class given by an experienced Disney cartoonist. Each day, several times a day, different characters are put under the spotlight, so you'll get to choose which time slot you attend so that you can draw a character that works for you.
3. Go on safari
This Kilimanjaro Safari attraction is the closest you'll probably get to an actual safari without going to Africa. You get to see the animals and you get the weather. But just like any safari, it's hit or miss whether or not you'll get a good view of the animals. My advice to you, having done the safari several times over our last few trips, is to either do the safari first thing in the morning or while it's raining.
4. Go on the Maharajah Jungle Trek & the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
These jungle treks are the best way to get to see a variety of different animals. The Maharajah trek is the one where you get to see the tigers, which is something that everyone is loving at the moment, what with the birth of their new baby.
You'll get to see a wide range of other animals along the way also, so it's not just about the tigers. The Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail is when you'll get to see, you guessed it, gorillas, including silver backs and even a few babies.
You'll also be able to see zebras, giant bats and some of the most colourful birds you'll ever see. They're both lovely walks to go on if you're looking for something to do in Animal Kingdom.
5. Climb Everest
Animal Kingdom is home to Everest. Of course, it's not the REAL Mount Everest, but it's just as terrifying and comes complete with its own yeti. But let me tell you, the ride is not for the faint of heart. It's something I would definitely recommend you avoid if you get motion sickness.
I know Disney says this about all of their rides, but trust me on this one, you really do want to avoid it if, like me, motion sickness is a real problem for you. But aside from that, it's a great ride if you're looking for a thrill in and around walking through some of their nature trails.
6. See how many animals you can pick out of the Tree of Life
The Tree of Life is the star of the show at Animal Kingdom. Its trunk is made to look as though animals have been carved into the wood. The longer you look at it, the more animals you'll see on there. They all intertwine with each other. See how many animals you can pick out of the trunk of The Tree of Life. It's something that the children will find fascinating as well!
