4 Benefits of a Service Plan for Your Car

Ever since owning a car, I was always of the mind that servicing my car was a waste of time and money. I'd make sure it was MOT'ed, of course, and I'd have the oil changed if the light came on, but a regular service wasn't something I was interested in.

However, having bought a newer, more expensive car, servicing it seems to be the best way forward so that my new car holds its value, which is just one benefit of a service plan. Let me take you through a few other benefits of servicing your car, together with why a service plan would be the best course of action.

1. It offers some discount on individual services

A single full service can cost hundreds of pounds, and so can your interim service. Depending on the service plan you choose, you'll be able to get a full service and an interim service once a year for a between £18-£25 a month.

Usually, the term is for 24 months, but instead of forking out upwards of £400 a year for just one full service, paying £25 a month almost halves the cost of just one full service. While this isn't a benefit of a service, it's definitely the upside to a service plan if you have a more expensive car.

2. It holds the car's value

A full service history is something that can hold the vehicle's value, more so if your car is valued higher than the average one. If your car is shown to have undergone a full service, you'll get more for it when you come to sell it or exchange it for another vehicle.

3. It keeps the car running smoothly

A service will almost always involve an oil change, unless it's an interim service. An oil change is something that you should be doing once a year anyway, whether you have it serviced or not. It keeps the engine running smoothly and it can also improve fuel efficiency, helping you save money in the long run.

4. Your car will undergo a free health check

Every time your car goes into the garage, no matter what it's for, it will undergo a free health check. This will help to highlight any possible issues that might need rectifying to ensure the safety of you, your car and your passengers. It will also give you peace of mind, should nothing be highlighted on the health check.
