'Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind' at Walt Disney World, Florida: What Did We Think to it?

I love roller coasters. It's just always been something that I've really enjoyed and so I didn't think this ride would change the way I saw theme park attractions. Located in the heart of EPCOT, Walt Disney World, Florida, The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster definitely left an impression on me in particular. It's had a pretty mixed response thus far...

People either love it or hate it

Unfortunately, I was one of the people who absolutely hated it, whereas my Fiance found it to be great fun so it really does depend on you and where your boundaries lie in terms of thrill-seeking.

My problem has always been motion sickness and this ride was certainly not the one for those who suffer with motion sickness like me. I already knew I might run into a few problems so I took a couple of travel tablets two hours before we left for the park, but they really weren't much help at all.

I felt as though I was getting thrown around left, right and centre at a few points, to the point where I just wanted it to end. It started off really quite gently. I couldn't imagine it getting any quicker or more violent in its movements, but boy was I wrong.

The carnage begins after you get flung backwards, in the dark, with one of a collection of epic seventies and eighties soundtracks. The one we got blurting out into our ears was 'One Way or Another' by Blondie. So now, whenever I hear that song, all I think of is being "trapped" on The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World.

"It's definitely innovative"

It's a roller coaster that also gives the simulator experience, so you're almost getting two attractions in one. In order to pull this off successfully, the car that sits on the track can not only travel forwards and backwards, like a conventional roller coaster, but it also moves and twists, like being on a fast-moving tea cup that's travelling exceptionally quickly, forwards and backwards, on a track. It's definitely innovative, but I think some people will like it more than others, like in our case.

I remember pulling in at the very end and feeling an immense sense of relief at seeing one of the cast members who's sole job it was to terminate the ride. I got off and my legs felt like jelly! I also felt exceptionally nauseous, but more dizzy than feeling unwell, which is an improvement for me. So maybe the travel tablets took the edge off it for me?

There were quite a few people who were getting off who looked a bit worse for wear, probably feeling much the same way I did after going on a spinning roller coaster that turned out to be a bit more than a standard assault on the senses.

But like I said, my Fiance absolutely loved the ride. He even tried to get a spot in the virtual queue again because he had that much of a good time on it. He enjoyed the experience and how it as unlike anything else in any of the Disney parks, so he was happy to have ridden one of the newest rides in, not only EPCOT, but Walt Disney World as a whole.
