Everything Your Bridesmaids Should Be Doing for You

Being a bridesmaid is such a huge responsibility. I've been either side of the fence here, having my own bridesmaids when I got married, and being a bridesmaid for my best friend when she got married.

I thought that, seeing as I had experience on both sides, I'd write this blog post for any of you who have been asked to be a bridesmaid for your friend, but aren't sure what's expected of you.

Alternatively, you might be a bride who isn't sure what you can and cannot ask your bridesmaids to do for you. So let's get into it; here's everything your bridesmaids should be doing for you...

1. Helping you find a dress

Firs things first, your bridesmaids need to help you find the wedding dress of your dreams. They need to be able to give you some honest opinions on the dress, making sure that you've picked one that is seamlessly to your style, taste and also what suits your body shape.

If they're your bridesmaids, they should know you well enough to give you some constructive advice and look at dresses with a critical eye, when it's called for. It's one of the most expensive garments you'll buy in your life, so it needs to be right. With your bridesmaids by your side, you should have chosen your dream gown, with their help.

2. Planning the perfect hen do

The hen do is something that is critical to any marriage event. It needs to be done in accordance with the bride's wishes. If she wants to go out and get smashed, then plan a bottomless brunch, followed by a few night clubs to dance the night away. But if they want something small and understated, to be in bed by 9pm, then maybe an afternoon tea would be better.

3. Offering to help with wedding-related tasks & errands

This is an important one, because the bride will be rushed off her feet trying to make sure her big day goes as smoothly as possible. As a bridesmaid, you could try and help to make things a little bit easier for her by offering to run some of those errands for her. It doesn't have to be anything big, but even offering up your address to have things delivered to could be all of the help she needs.

4. Making sure you always look amazing on the big day

A bridesmaid's job is making sure that the bride looks incredible on the day. They need to think about how the bride looks before they think of themselves. This means the the bridesmaid also needs to be on hand to help with any hair or wardrobe malfunctions that might happen, although we all hope this never occurs.

5. Keeping you topped up with food & drinks...because you WILL forget to do this yourself

This might sound like a silly one, but after you've had your sit-down meal, whether it be a traditional three-course dinner or an afternoon tea, it's a free for all from there when it comes to food and drink. The bridesmaid needs to make sure that the bride is being given drinks and that they're getting a look-in when it comes to any canapes that might be floating past, together with the buffet food. It might be a good idea just to plate up some food from the evening buffet so that the bride gets a nibble too.
