My Summer Essentials

Now that summer is officially in full swing, I found myself carrying around and using very specific items that I wouldn't ordinarily use at any other time of year. They include keeping my feet nice and airy, wearing makeup with a higher SPF and staying hydrated as much as possible. So what do I consider to be my essentials around the summer time? Let's dive right in!

Sun cream

I never really leave the house without sun cream when it's warm, even if there's no sun. It might sound silly but you don't need the sun to be out in order to catch some UV rays, so I'll still make sure to wear sun cream, even on my face, when the weather starts to change. I wrote a blog post about the sun cream I use almost every year, so you can read my review of that here.

SPF foundations & concealers

I don't often use foundation these days. I feel like my skin does better without it. But if I do wear foundation, I ensure that it has at least some SPF in it likewise with the concealer I use. The Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser Concealer has some SPF in it, as does the L'Oreal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation that I love.

I'm sure there are some other products that have SPF in them, I just thought I'd detail my go-to ones. I've made a list below of foundations and concealers containing SPF, from high-end right up to affordable options:

Birkenstocks

If you've been following me on here for a while, then you'll know and understand my love for Birkenstocks. I have three different pairs of Arizona sandals but they're all different colours. I have a white pair, a black pair and a new brown pair. I wrote an article about why you need to invest in a pair of Birkenstocks and you might well find a few pictures on here of my sporting a pair during the summer months.

A reusable water bottle

I will always bring a water bottle with me that's full of either water with a bit of ice or some squash/cordial to stay as hydrated as possible even when I'm out and about. The one I have is great because it's insulated. This means that if I put ice in it, then the drink inside stays super cold for hours on end - great if you're going for a long walk or run or if you have to go for a longer-than -usual car journey.

Sunglasses

We both bought a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses last year and so now, whenever the sun comes out, we always make sure we bring our sunglasses to protect our eyes. Tom's glasses are even more fancy as they're polarised, whereas mine are just bog standard sunnies. When I bought them, I wrote a whole blog post about them so I could capture them when they were at their best, before I wore them in, haha!

Lip balm

I will always carry a tin or a stick of lip balm with me because around this time of year, my lips get extremely cracked and dry. I'm not sure if it's because the weather has changed and the air around you has possibly become more humid, because water isn't great for the lips, much like dry air. The hot weather might also contribute to the dry lips problem. But either way, I find that my lips get extremely dry around May/June/July so I'll always have a tin of lip balm on me. Here are the lip balms I love, or have loved.
