5 Things a Child-Free Couple Can Do with Friends Who Have Children
Tom and I don't have any children, but almost all of our friends do, so I'd say I'm quite experienced when it comes to doing things with friends who have kids. If, like us, you too are in a child-free marriage, then I understand that it can be a bit challenging sometimes when it comes to activities to do and places to go.
More so because you have to find things to do that are age-appropriate but not boring for you, who doesn't have any children to run around after. Soft play, for example, isn't the best place for child-free couples to meet up with friends who have kids, unless it's a birthday party or another celebration. So what can you do as a child-free couple with your friends who have children? Let me throw some ideas at you!
1. Go for lunch
This is a great way of meeting up when your friends have small children or babies. This is because the kids are less likely to want to run around and they won't get bored either. They just sort of sit there and enjoy the food they're being given.
It also gives you the chance to have a cuddle with them. Lunch is a great way of catching up with friends when they have children and you don't. But again, this might not be suitable if they have children that are walking and playing.
2. Meet up at the park
This is definitely the thing to do if your friends have children who are always on the go and get easily bored when you're sat there chatting and eating a panini. Parks have everything that anyone could want. Long walks, playgrounds, ice cream and toilets!
It's the perfect setting to meet up with friends who have children. Who doesn't love a good walk and a kick about with your friends' children? Also, you're making great memories, not only for yourself, but you may also find that your friends' children can remember those times with you when they're - what a privilege to be a part of their childhood.
3. Do some seasonal activities
When I say seasonal, I mean things like visiting Father Christmas in his grotto or doing an Easter egg hunt with the Easter bunny. If you're struggling for things to do around the festive season, whether it be Christmas, Easter or even New Year, there will be plenty of activities and days out that are organised that you'll all be able to take part in.
4. Visit with them at your friends' house
This is a great place to meet no matter how old their children might be. If they're babies then it's easy for the parents to soothe and feed their baby whilst also making sure they stay in their sleep pattern. On the other end of the spectrum, home is where all of their kids' toys and gadgets are going to be.
It's also their safe space. If they don't want to be involved, then they'll have the freedom to do their own thing. Just keep in mind that your friends' house might not be pristine, clean and tidy, so don't expect it to be when they have children around, no matter how old they might be.
5. Have a coffee
Coffees are like lunch dates, but quicker. This is a great compromise for those who have children, because they might not want to be sat down for too long or they have a baby that needs their sleep routine.
The quicker you can meet up, catch up and go home the better sometimes when it comes to friends who have children. Drinking a coffee and having a cake takes just the right amount of time to polish it off and fill in your friends on life generally. Once you've had your coffee, it's a great prompt to be on your respective ways.
