Everything I Loved in August

I can't quite believe that August has come to an end, but here we are. What a busy month we have had this year. From big birthdays to a trip to the Cotswolds, August has been jam-packed in terms of how busy we've been. But enough of beating around the bush, let's see what I've loved throughout the last summer month of the year!

Tom's 30th birthday

Tom turned 30 at the end of this month and it was a very laid back affair. We spent the night before with his parents and we then went out for some breakfast on the morning of Tom's birthday. Later that day, Tom and I went to Roxy's Ball Room in Nottingham for a spot of darts and crazy pool.

This was then followed by some drinks in a local bar before heading out for dinner with everyone at Brown's. The dinner was attended by 12 of us, all family, so it was a lovely evening for Tom to enjoy. Take a look at some of the photos below for a bit more insight into Tom's 30th birthday this month!

Attending a retirement party

August was the month where someone close to us decided to retire and it was quite the affair. We all got together, as a family, to celebrate the life milestone and it was a lovely day. The temperate hit nearly 30 degrees Celsius, the sun was shining all day, the drinks were flowing and the food was incredible.  It couldn't have gone any better, in truth, and we're all satisfied knowing that the retiree had the most amazing day surrounded by those who mean the most to them. What can I say? It was a day I'll remember for years to come.

A relaxing spa day

This is something that I booked for Tom's 30th birthday and it was so needed. We had made a lot of headway with the garden, but because we're doing it all ourselves, it get's to be a lot to deal with, both physically and mentally.

So I thought it would be a nice idea to treat us both to a day of relaxation, and boy did we relax. It was just nice to have a day where we didn't have anything to worry about and absolutely nothing to do. It's not often that we get a weekend that's like that, so it was such a treat.

We also had some lunch at the restaurant while we were there, and the food was great! If you're interested in where we went, let me know in the comments below and I'll be sure to share the deets!

Grease at the Nottingham Concert Hall

We went to see Grease at the Nottingham Concert Hall this month and it was fantastic! I went with my mum and my sister and it was just a really lovely girly night out that I think we all needed. Packed full of laughter and a lot of singing, it was sure to become a highlight of the month, and it was. I'd totally recommend going to see it in your home town if they come around, especially if, like me, you're a sucker for a musical, haha!

More garden progress

The garden has taken precedent over our lives in the last few months. We've been working on it since mid-May and it's starting to wear thin. However, we're now beginning to see some progress in terms of things coming together now. We can start buying patio slabs and tiles for our new flower beds so it will all come together soon.

We're hoping to get some grass down as well in the next few weeks, so watch this space because that will transform the space again. If you want to see what it looked like before this, you can take a look back at this blog post and this blog post, if you're interested :)

A relaxing Bank Holiday

August obviously saw a Bank Holiday Weekend, and I feel as though we made the most of it in terms of relaxation. We spent Monday chilling out, and we also spent most of Saturday relaxing as well. However, Sunday was a day of jobs.

We jet-washed the driveway after having a skip and moving more soil and we also trimmed all of the bushes in the front garden as well. We even washed the front door and the windows! But we made up for a productive day by having a takeaway and some beers for dinner in front of the telly - divine.

Two days in the Cotswolds

We spent a couple of days in August visiting my side of the family in the Cotswolds. They don't live there we just met up there as it's a great half-way zone for us all, as we're dotted around the country. We did visit the Cotswolds a couple of years ago for my uncle's 60th birthday and we loved it that much that we jumped at the opportunity to go again and visit family this summer.

We spent the time chilling out, visiting pubs for amazing local beers and ciders and eating amazing food. Overall, I'd recommend the Cotswolds for a staycation any day of the week. It was a highlight of August for me for sure. If you want to see what we did in more detail, you can take a look at this blog post where I give a round up of our mini break!
