The Christmas Tag | Twelve Days of Christmas (Day 5)

I can't remember doing this on my blog before, although I probably have, but I thought it would make a nice contribution to the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' series I'm doing right now, I'll be publishing a new blog post every day till the 26th December, after that, I will be back to my normal schedule :) Anyway, I hope you're enjoying it and there are plenty of other festive themed posts to come, so stay tuned :)
Right, shall we get started? If you want to do this tag, please do, I'd love to read some, so leave your blog links in the comment section at the bottom or tweet me some :)
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS FILM?
I feel like the answer to this question changes every year, but right now, I'm LOVING 'Christmas Vacation'. I mentioned it in the 'My Top 5 | Christmas Films' that I published last month, it literally is my new favourite film, if you've not seen it, I'll leave a trailer for you to watch below :) If you love Christmas, family get-to-gethers and slapstick comedy, you'll love this film as much as I do, its so underrated so if you get a chance to watch it, please do, you won't be disappointed, I promise!

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A WHITE CHRISTMAS?

Not properly, I don't think I have, or if I have, I can't remember. I've actually had it snow on my birthday more which is surprising as my birthday is in MARCH. It did snow on Christmas Eve once but it didn't hang around long enough for it to be an official 'white Christmas' which was disappointing, but there are plenty of other Christmases to come so all hope isn't lost :)

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY SPEND YOUR CHRISTMAS?

I've always spent my Christmas at home, out of the 20 Christmases I've had in my life, I've spent every single one of them at home with my family, watching the TV and eating fantastic food.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG?

I can't pick a single one I love over every other one, so its a toss up between 'Last Christmas' by Wham! and 'Do They Know it's Christmas?' by the original Band Aid. But I am loving 'Lonely this Christmas' by Mud which no one has ever heard of, but I'm sure you'd have heard the song before, I'll leave some videos below for you :)

(Wham! 'Last Christmas')

(Band Aid 'Do they Know it's Christmas?')

(Mud 'Lonely this Christmas')

DO YOU OPEN ANY PRESENTS ON CHRISTMAS EVE?

No, we've never done it, we've never been allowed, it's a family thing I guess, everyone is different and that's just what our family does. But I suppose it keeps the suspense up right till the very end, it's nice to have something to look forward to come Christmas morning. Even now, at the age of 20, I've never been allowed to, I'm happy to keep it that way though :)

WHAT FAMILY TRADITIONS ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING THIS YEAR?

I love getting our Christmas tree, we drive out to the middle of nowhere, and pick a tree, the people that work there wrap it up for you all ready to take home, then we'll all go for a hot chocolate at the café there. I also love decorating the tree after a couple of days. We always leave it so the needles can drop and the branches can relax a bit to give the tree more shape, we've always had a real tree, although we do have a fake one for our other reception room.

Which leads me on to the next question...

IS YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE REAL OR FAKE?

Real all the way, we love the smell of a real tree, that and it's different every year, its always a different height, and shape every year, that and it always has a different face, making each tree unique. When we're done with our tree, the council collect it and recycle it, turning all the trees into bark to put on the pathways in our local park so the soil doesn't go muddy and slippery during the cold Winter weather, that and it's good for the environment as the wood chippings simply break down into the soil below, it's such a good idea.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE TREATS TO EAT DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON?

I don't really have anything particular I love to eat, there is one thing, but it isn't a sweet treat, I love to eat Twiglets around Christmas time, especially when they're brought out in the tins. I bloody love them, not gonna lie xD I also LOVE Cadbury 'Snow Bites' they're basically Cadbury's answer to a Christmas themed 'Mini Egg'.

BE HONEST: DO YOU PREFER GIVING OR RECEIVING PRESENTS?

To be 100% honest, I do love receiving gifts, especially if they're thoughtful ones or have been handmade by someone, but it does feel so good to give someone a present, especially if they weren't expecting it or you know it's something they'll love and you just get so excited for them to open it. It's part of the Christmas experience, giving presents instead of just receiving them, it's something that I've enjoyed more and more as I've got older, when I was younger, I just loved receiving presents (as does every child).

WHAT IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECIEVED?

I know I should probably say my Canon 1200D, or the time my brother and I were given a Play Station 1 for Christmas, but honestly, I remember receiving a rocking horse on the Christmas of 2000 and it was beautiful, we still have it in my loft, but it was wooden, a dark coloured wood, shiny and it was rather big. I wasn't your typical rocking horse where it literally rocked, it looked more like the one in the photo below, it was gorgeous, and I'll probably give it to my kids if I have any, or my brother or sister to give it to theirs if they have a family in the future, it's one of those toys where it has potential to be passed through the generations, it was simply beautiful and so sentimental as well.

WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT AT CHRISTMAS TIME?

Anyone who knows me would already know what I'm going to say and that's New York. It looks magical, any Christmas lover's dream basically, it would be the closest I'd get to my childhood perception of what the North Pole looks like at Christmas, minus Santa's workshop and Elves that live in their own little igloos xD.

ARE YOU A PRO PRESENT WRAPPER OR FAIL MISERBALY?

I'd like to think I was closer to a pro present wrapper than a rubbish present wrapper. It takes me a while to pick out a wrapping paper I like, complete with matching tags and complementary ribbons, bows and present toppers. I'm terrible when we go to do our food shop around Christmas time, because all I do is buy Christmas things which I most definitely don't need.

MOST MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS MOMENT?

The time where we all woke up to my sister opening presents that were under the tree. She was only 3 at the time, and looking back it was hilarious, but at the time, my 8 year old self didn't see the funny side, and nor did my 6 year old brother, my parents on the other hand were more understanding, she was only 3 years old and didn't know that what she was doing was bad, so they took her aside and explained that you aren't supposed to open the presents until everyone is down and sat with a glass of milk (which is what happened when we opened presents). She didn't open all of them, she'd only opened about five, and she wasn't to know, it was funny looking back though xD.

Also, a couple of years ago, we went to midnight mass at Church as we do every year, and there was this man stood outside handing out loads of envelopes, he gave out whole family an envelope each, so we said thank you, not knowing what it was, and we took the envelope inside, and sat down, we didn't actually know that there was anything in there, it felt empty, but when we opened it there was £5 note inside, a bit perplexed, we saw that many other people in Church was given an envelope too, I didn't feel comfortable pocketing it myself, so instead, I put my £5 in the collection basket that went round, and so did the rest of my family. That was pretty strange, but still, we'd done a good deed on Christmas day, donating money to our Church instead of keeping it for our own selfish needs and wants.

WHEN DID YOU FIND OUT THAT SANTA WASN'T REAL?

Sorry guys, it's true, Santa (or Father Christmas as we call him in the UK) doesn't exist. I found this out when I discovered the 'Baby Born' I'd asked for on top of my Mum and Dad's wardrobe, I wasn't upset, I was just a little disappointed that Father Christmas wasn't real. But being the nice sister I am, I didn't tell my siblings the shocking truth, and instead, they too found out for themselves at some point.

DO YOU MAKE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS?

I make them with good intentions, you know, the typical 'lose weight', 'read 100 books', 'give more to charity' etc, but 9 times out of 10 I don't really stick to them, or if I do, it's only for a few months and never for the entire year. It's not just me I'm pretty sure of that xD.

WHAT MAKES CHRISTMAS SPECIAL FOR YOU?

Being with family and friends over Christmas. I love spending time with my family and Christmas is the perfect time to do that. I also make more of an effort to give to charity around this time, I make up those shoe boxes with Church, where people donate shoe boxes and toiletries, flannels and small toys, possibly a note pad and some stationary, all those little things get put into a shoe box and they're given to the homeless, this year, we're giving them to the refugees that have come to the UK, I think it's a wonderful thing personally.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, it may have given you an insight into my life around the festive as well. If you've done this tag, or wish to do it, please do and leave me some links below or tweet me some articles you've written. I will see you tomorrow with a brand new Christmas post for you all X

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
