Blogmas (Day 21) | Delicious Mulled Wine Recipe

Everyone loves Mulled Wine at Christmas...well ok, maybe not everyone, but a lot of people do, myself included. It sounds bad, but it's one of the things I always look forward to at Christmas, being able to drink Mulled Wine without being judged. Anyway, as convenient as the shop bought stuff is, you can't beat the wine you spice and warm at home. I'm going to show you, in this post, how to get the most taste from your Mulled Wine this year. Enjoy! (the pot and the wine!)

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Ready Within: 45 mins (from first cook on hob)
Serves: 6

Ingredients

*750ml Red Wine (best to use young, fruity and bright wine, preferably unoaked)
*2 cinnamon sticks
*2 star anise
*4 cloves
*2 strips lemon zest (can use veg peeler)
*3 slim orange slices (wedges work just as well)
*1 large gala apple
*4 tbsp. caster sugar
*100ml sloe gin (optional)

Method

1) Put all the wine, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, lemon zest, orange slices and sugar into a large pan and cook on low heat for approx. 10 mins.
2) When it comes to a simmer, take off the heat, leaving to infuse the wine for 30 mins.
3) After 30 mins of the pan being off the heat, warm up slowly on the hob, without letting it come to the boil...Mulled Wine should be warm, not boiling hot.
4) If you decided to use sloe gin, pour this in now and serve.

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know if you tried this out and what you thought. Is it better than the shop bought, ready made Mulled Wine? Have you made it before? Is there anything in my recipe that's missing? Let me know in the comments. I will see you tomorrow for day 22 of Blogmas!
